In 2017, the federal Ontario laws* regarding the safety of a new vehicle with tint on the front two doors and windshield changed to allow 70% light transmittance through - 30% tint. This does not apply to the rear passenger and back windows. Under the Highway Traffic Act (sections 73 and 74), which have not changed, it states: "No person shall drive on a highway a motor vehicle on which the surface of the windshield or of any window to the direct left or right of the driver’s seat has been coated with any coloured spray or other coloured or reflective material that substantially obscures the interior of the motor vehicle when viewed from outside the motor vehicle.
